Notes on the Garden Collection

Posted by Lou Lauwerys on

Since moving to Singapore in 2019 I feel like I've been constantly discovering a treasure trove of beautiful botanics in the garden city. Not just the iconic traveller's palm but the coconut, ruffle, bismarck and more, each with their own distinct design. The varied heliconia, hibiscus and frangipani have become some of my favourite flowers.

I've enjoyed making linoprints of these over the last few years in limited editions to create the Garden Collection. I love the combination of ombré gradients and layered overlays to highlight intricate details and bring out the character of each plant. And the collection is always evolving as previous designs sell out and new designs are added.

Every linoprint is pressed by hand, resulting in a distinct handmade quality, with textures and colours that vary subtly from one print to the next. This individual printing process gives each artwork a unique, tactile aesthetic that reflects the organic beauty of nature.

The Garden Collection is intended to work together in endless combinations, mix and match to create your own gallery wall. ‘Garden City...’ pieces are handprinted from a single linocut block or jigsaw of block. ‘Botanic Garden...’ pieces are handprinted with two or more layers.
